Alec Burger - President, North America Lending

Alec Burger is a GE veteran with a proven record of business building GE Real Estate’s business in the United States and Europe. Recently appointed head of GE Real Estate’s North America Lending division, Alec’s objective is to continue expanding the firm’s presence in the United States through new product development and strategic acquisitions.

Alec takes control of a division with more than 400 sales, underwriting, closing and asset management professionals based in 19 major markets across the United States and Canada. The division offers an array of traditional and innovative lending products, including a variety of fixed rate and floating rate solutions, as well as senior and mezzanine debt structures. Lending is also a provider of financing solutions for niche asset classes including affordable housing, golf, hospitality, vacation ownership, manufactured home communities and RV resorts.

In his previous position as Managing Director of GE Real Estate (UK) from 2002 to 2006, Alec ran a growing, profitable business with annual revenues reaching some $800 million. During his tenure, he substantially rebuilt GE Real Estate’s UK portfolio through asset and portfolio acquisitions, as well as strategic joint venture partnerships. These included the acquisitions of Benchmark and Haslemere, mezzanine financing for the Macdonalds and IHG hotel portfolios, as well as the sale of MEPC to Hermes.

He joined GE Real Estate in 2000. Before heading GE Real Estate’s UK division, Alec spearheaded a number of other major strategic real estate acquisitions in the United States and the United Kingdom, including Heller Financial, Debis and the US$3.9 billion (£2.68 bn) acquisition of Security Capital. Alec joined GE in Corporate Business Development in 1991 and held a variety of management positions in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Alec Burger earned a B.S. from Trinity College and received his M.B.A. from Northeastern University.
